Find Out What Your Perfect Time for Writing Is
We are all individuals who have a unique timeline for our everyday activities. We shouldn`t underestimate the time of the day when we are best at doing something we really like. It especially applies to all aspiring authors who can`t understand what exactly influences their productivity and creativity. Here are some effective methods that will help you define the best time for unleashing your most powerful, insightful, and creative content.
Try to Work in 90-Minute Cycles
According to some scientific research, every person is in a state of emotional resilience, mental stamina, and creativity only for 90 minutes. However, it is important to figure out the perfect time for these 90 minutes. Define your level of energy at different intervals throughout the day. Work in 90-minute cycles with a break for 10 minutes during this peak energy period. Repeat this cycle until you get your planned writing done. Don`t forget that setting a daily deadline and regular writing time will ensure that you don`t have to think about when to write.
Pick Morning or Night
To write the very first thing in the morning can be very advantageous. The thing is that you haven`t challenged your willpower for the day yet so you are fresh and bright at this period. What is more, your creativity is most active during and immediately after sleep. But a lot of authors claim that writing at night is the ideal time because nothing is left to do and you have plenty of ideas after experiencing different life situations during the day. At the end of the day, it`s up to you to decide whatever time of the day or night you are going to write but you should bear in mind that it must be your habit. However, never start writing right in the middle of the day. That is when your brain is likely to focus on creating anything original and new because it is in a reactive mode.
Test a 15-Minute Exercise
Pick a few writing times throughout the day. Then, find a 15-minute block of time when you don`t have any obligations. Be ready with your laptop, notebook and other important stationery when the time comes. And the last step- sit down and write. Don`t let anything distract you. You should even politely end the engaging conversation with your best friend when this time arrives.
It is a great mistake to wait for the perfect time to create your best work ever. Elwyn Brooks White, an American author, once said that ‘a writer who waits for ideal conditions under which to work will die without putting a word on paper`. It goes without saying that he is definitely right but one thing that every aspiring writer has to learn is that he or she should work smarter instead of working longer. If you are going to become a great writer someday, you should develop your own schedule to maximize your productivity, otherwise, you should give up on writing.
